Write the vision down (and wait…)

The Lord places desires, passions, and dreams in our hearts for a reason. Sometimes though, it may seem like He has forgotten about them and is not interested in seeing them through. Our constant need for instant gratification gives us the idea that, if we have a desire from the Lord, there could be no better time than the present to fulfill it. We become frustrated, discouraged, and even angry when things don’t seem to be moving in that direction. We question and doubt, or just altogether give up on and forget these greatest desires and dreams.

But our God is perfection. His timing is masterful, and every word He speaks is true and will be seen through to completion.

“Write the vision[…] For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end – it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it surely will come; it will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:2-3

In this passage God tells Habakkuk to write down his vision; He wants him to record it, to mark it down so that he never doubts what was spoken to him. Then He tells Habakkuk to wait. He says that the vision is full of truth, it does not lie, but awaits its appointed time. Even though in the waiting it may seem the timing is slow, God calls Habakkuk to wait, for “it will surely come”.

We can have faith and take heart in knowing that God sees us. He knows us through and through. He sees our desires and the things our hearts burn to do, see happen, or be a part of. And He delights in giving us good gifts. Our job is to wait, to seek the Lord, remember His promises, and wait with a faithful heart. “It will surely come; it will not delay”.

The righteous shall live by faith.
